Richard is a Full Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS). He trained as an Engineer at University and following a successful career in marketing in the finance industry he retrained to work in the industry he has so much passion for. In 2016, he a was a key note speaker at the Global Super Yacht Forum on the subject of valuations in the superyacht industry.
Having set up Precision Yacht Surveying in 2008, the company was rebranded as Support Ashore in order to expand into related areas as his specialisms grew.

Richard is an author of 9 diploma modules at the Maritime Training Academy and Course Director for both the Yacht and Small Craft Surveying Diploma and the Boatyard and Marina Operations Diploma. His combination of technical knowledge and first hand experience is vital to providing students the insight and information to work in the maritime industry.
Experience
The marine surveyor is in a privileged position where experience is attained across the industry. Through subcontracting to Maritime Services International for over ten years he has gained invaluable experience, especially in superyachts. As Richard is often required to attend when things have gone wrong, he can take the key learnings and apply these going forward. Coupled with a life time of sailing and boat ownership (many first hand experiences) results in a reasoned and pragmatic outlook. This has been invaluable in many situations in order to determine the best way forward.
